MacOS X 10.5.2 Graphics Update and external monitor issues

Since installing the Graphics Update on our MacBookPro (right after you install 10.5.2 you get prompted to install the graphics update) we have had problems with our external monitor (Cinema Display). Such as that the MacBookPro does not start correctly (kernel panic) or when it starts it does not see the external monitor.

Looking over at the Apple Discussion Boards on this thread and this thread we see that this is a common problem after applying the Graphics Update.

So far the solutions are:

  • Don’t apply the Graphics Update
  • If you already applied the update go back to 10.5.2 (if you have a backup)
  • Some people have had success with “Detecting the Displays” (did not work for us)

Apple is/should be aware of this issue and will (hopefully) release a fix soon.
