In Al Gore’s brand-new slideshow (premiering exclusively on TED.com), he presents evidence that the pace of climate change may be even worse than scientists were recently predicting, and challenges us to act with a sense of “generational mission” — the kind of feeling that brought forth the civil rights movement — to set it right. Gore’s stirring presentation is followed by a brief Q&A in which he is asked for his verdict on the current political candidates’ climate policies and on what role he himself might play in future.

Perhaps you should eliminate your carbon footprint by moving to an Amish community if things are so bad. No sense wasting electricty on web development if the world can’t handle it. Believe the AGW hype? Prove your loyalty.
I wish some global warming would come visit us in up state new york. We had over 21 inches on snow at the Buffalo airport on April 4th! This was the coldest winter in over 20 years!
Well, the global warming has already reached you. You better get prepared for more cold winters like that.
One clear sign of the global warming is the shift of “seasons” all over the world. In Switzerland they are seeing signs of spring in December and January, clearly a time for winter there and you are seeing Winter instead of spring. In India people are dieing because it snows there (at places where it never snowed in the past) and so on….
I love the “new” rationale for “mad-made” global warming. Since more and more people, scientists and media outlets are realizing that the earth has stopped warming (See “There IS a problem with global warming… it stopped in 1998″ - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2006/04/09/do0907.xml&sSheet=/news/2006/04/09/ixworld.html) you now have to assert that ANYTIME there is a change in the climate it is caused by man. I’m all for new energy sources (independence, security, economic reasons) but I’m not a mind-numbed robot that believes anything that Al Gore or the media feeds me. No one knows the reason for climate change and the scientists are not in agreement. NASA has egg on their face as their face from last week’s article, “The Mystery of Global Warming’s Missing Heat” http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=88520025.
It is funny that you say “I’m not a mind-numbed robot that believes anything that Al Gore or the media feeds me.”, but at the same time you link to news and media resources.
Anyhow, I think it is not so that Al Gore is trying to feed you or anybody, but simply tries to create an awareness and consciousness about the current situation!
Indeed it is quite “scary” to see that only the USA is not aware of the situation at hand. Have you looked all over the world? People are very aware of the current climate change and are all willing to to something to change that.
Of course, it is the easiest to just ignore it and discuss against it. Unfortunately, this tendency can be seen by people of all ages and in all positions. But I humbly suggest that anybody wake up, opens up their eyes and minds and see what lies right before them.
We, the people of this world can change it, nobody else is going to take the blame for it!
I agree! Let’s have an open and frank discussion! Al Gore says that all of the scientists are in consensus and that only the “flat-earthers” deny global warming. It’s getting to a point where it is becoming a religion and if you don’t agree with the “experts” (aka those that tow the global warming line) then you are a heretic. Sounds like the Spanish Inquisition, “Do you deny global warming?? Profess! Swear your allegiance to the cause!!” There are hundreds of scientists that initially believed in man-made global warming but no longer do based upon recent data (ice caps thickening, fewer hurricanes, temperatures have decreased all over the globe, oceans not warming, etc). Why are they ostracized and shunned because they are no longer “for the cause”? Perhaps YOU should read some articles, studies, surveys that question man-made global warming with an open mind.
Point taken.
But let’s look beyond what a “global warming” message means to a lot of people. People who DON’T want to change and have the power to change what the public will hear and read. I am talking about the lobby that is in “danger” if all the people drive less car, spend less money, use alternative energy and so on.
Don’t you think that these people (organizations) have a motive to “buy” scientists? I believe they do have the power (and money) to change the public beliefs.
I am no scientist and probably only understand half of what those scientists are talking about, but I can see how the world has changed and that the world has to carry a bigger burden today then 50 years ago. It is common sense that the natural resources are not unlimited.
There is no time in history where we don’t have to take responsibility for our actions. Actions and Reactions. This is what the whole universe is about. So, since we are only taking from the world’s resources but are not giving anything back, it is by law of nature that we will suffer from this action.
So it is up to us to make a change. Each individual can decide each minute how to act to an action. Thus I can choose today, to not support anymore what the global industries want me to think and eat their marketing messages.
That is all I am saying, you are your own captain of your ship and you are responsible for your actions. Nobody else.
