Razuna 1.1.2 meets Gears

In our effort to bring the best performance and user experience to the Razuna open source Digital Asset Management System (and as we have learned it includes a full Content Management System (CMS) as well) we have integrated Gears. The new featured is duped as “Razuna UpDrive” and will be available in Razuna 1.1.2.

Gears is a browser extension that allows you to create local version of files used on webpages. Developed by Google, it was originally created to allow for some of Google online applications, such as Google Reader, to work when users are not connected to the Internet.

Within Razuna however we are using it to store highly used files to speed up its online experience. The idea is that you don’t have to reach out across the Internet each time to pull some css, javascript, graphics and other static files, it will be a much faster experience. Future versions will store user content and will support the administration section as well. This works on all platforms and for all browsers.

Activating Razuna UpDrive is easy as we have integrated it into the user interface of Razuna. Once set, you can forget about it and Razuna UpDrive will give you a faster experience when storing and retrieving your assets.

Razuna 1.1.2 is a update to the highly successfull 1.1.1 release which has been downloaded over 3000 times in the recent weeks. Usually we don’t bring new releases to point updates, but Razuna UpDrive was to good to hold back. Other then Razuna UpDrive the latest version incorporates the following fixes;

  • Update to the latest embedded database version
  • Uploading and extracting of ZIP archives works now
  • IE users are now able to use Razuna (we still recommend FireFox)
  • Uploading from the local server is now fixed
  • Firstime users had some problems with permission and the database. This is now also fixed.
  • About 15 other fixes.

Version 1.1.2 is planned to be released in the coming two weeks. If you want to help developing (just kidding) and be brave you can always grab the latest release from our subversion repository.
