  Final Wordpress 2.5 available Applications | (1)

  The final version of Wordpress 2.5 is now available. there are a lot of changes, but the most prominent one is the new look of the dashboard. The team also states that it has redesigned the administration to "blend" more in and be less "in your face". I personally liked the "old" look and feel, but it remains to be seen how it will work day to day. The upgrade worked perfectly. Well, I have to admit that we use subversion to install Wordpress and we simply had to switch the taged version to get to Wordpress 2.5.

  Nowadays it is common to use a .htaccess file to configure access to directories and also mask URL's that point to internal URL's. Well today, we had to point a URL of http://www.mydomain.com/solution to an internal URL like http://www.mydomain.com/solution.cfm. Actually no big deal, since the .htaccess comes to the rescue. We quickly put a .htaccess together with the simple lines of: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)$ /$1.cfm But alas, it did not work.   And as I was just posting about WebDeveloper and compatibility with FireFox 3, there is my other favorite  add-on called "FireBug" that I could not live without it. Go over to the FireBug Website and grab the 1.1 Beta. The developers say it is working with FireFox 3.

  In a recent post I said that one of my "must have" extensions, the WebDeveloper Toolbar, is not available for FireFox 3 and thus makes testing the FireFox 3 browser a less pleasant expirience.   FireFox 3 Beta 4 looks nice on MacOS X Applications | (0)

  We just took a look at the latest Firefox 3 Beta 4 release and I have to say that I like the new MacOS X look a lot. It looks very clean and invites one to browse with ease. Admitted, they took the normal look and feel from the MacOS X theme, but now Firefox "feels" more like a MacOS X application then simply a Windows port. We have not played with it a lot, mainly because two of our "must-have" plug-ins, Web Developer and Firebug, are not compatible. Thus we can't really say much, but pages are loading real fast ...

  Microsoft released today the "Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update". The Release Notes states; "The Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update contains several changes that improve security, stability, and performance. These changes include fixes for users of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, and include fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of a computer's memory by using malicious code."   Some problems with sending mail with Wordpress Applications, Linux | (0)

  We wondered since a couple of days, why we are not receiving any emails anymore from our blog here. Usually we receive a couple of comments a days and thus it was strange that nothing came in. Looking at the php.ini I saw that everything was setup correctly, but still mails did not get sent. Looking further we tried to configure sendmail and set the "smart_host" value. This is done by entering the correct SMTP-Server in the sendmail.mc file and using "make -C /etc/mail" to compile it (Note: remove the "dln" BEFORE the line. "dln" is a comment tag!).
